YMCK - Family Music

I figured this band was worth a mention again so here it is. YMCK is a 3 piece band from Japan that plays 'nintendo-ish jazz' mixed with poppy lyrics. This is by far the best 'new' group I've heard in quite some time(although I love Japan and video games... so that might be why I enjoy it some much). If you're a fan of jpop, nintendo, or just wanna hear something new... be sure to check this band out!

YMCK is real good stuff. Under that cute and lovable 8-bit JPop surface is alot of interesting musical things going on! Songs like "Darling" and "Does John Coltrane Dream of Merri-Go-Rounds" are constructed upon strong foundations of jazz harmony. I learned some of the more complex melody lines on piano, and they are as logical as Charlie Parker or Bud Powell's. Being a bebop fanatatic and a person of the Nintendo generation, this mix of music is very interesting and enjoyable. Not just your average 8-bit musical indie programmers, these guys know what they're doing!
